Military service
Company Quartermaster Havildar Abdul Hamid served with 4 Grenadiers during the India–Pakistan War of 1965. In the Khem Karan sector, he commanded a jeep-mounted recoilless-gun detachment tasked with opposing enemy armour.
Gallantry in 1965
On 10 September 1965, Hamid engaged advancing tanks under intense fire, changing position to continue the fight. He was mortally wounded during the action. His courage and leadership were recognized with the Param Vir Chakra, awarded posthumously.
